Introduction
WhichBudget is Europe's largest directory of budget airlines, featuring over a dozen airlines from around Europe. The demand for cheap flights has seen the huge rise in the number of no-frills airlines such as Ryanair and easyJet, which offer cheap tickets for flights between smaller European airports, making well known city break and beach holiday destinations more cheaply accessible and opening up new, previously less known destinations. Most importantly, they have started a new fashion for budget travel. People are no longer going on one or two holidays a year, but frequently escaping for a weekend away, or have bought second properties in sunny destinations, or are just seeing the business sense of travelling budget instead of business-class.
Gone are the days when airlines such as British Airways, Air France, KLM, Lufthansa, Swissair, etc. dominated the European skies, charging a small fortune on air fares. If you are just looking for a cheap ticket for a weekend in Paris, Barcelona, Dublin or Amsterdam or for a sunny break on Spanish Costas or the French Riviera, and you don't care about inflight meals, complimentary drinks and pre-bookable seats, welcome to the world of budget airlines.
With so many airlines now offering cheap flights and with the number of new destinations constantly increasing, a traveller who just wants to get away for a weekend, or spend a week in the sunnier climes, or is on a strict budget for a business flight has to spend a considerable time browsing through a multitude of routes for each airline. WhichBudget brings all the airlines and all the routes in one place. You want to know where you could fly to from London? Or, you would like to see all the airlines which fly to Barcelona? Just choose the departure/destination airport on WhichBudget and we will consolidate all the flights that you are looking for in one place. Go to www.WhichBudget.com
Background
WhichBudget was founded by Martino Matijevic and Isabelle de Cato. The story behind the site started in mid-1990s. Martino and Isabelle met while studying in Oxford and fell in love, but there was one problem: he was English, she was French. After Isabelle finished her year in Oxford, she returned to Nice and, in order to see each other as often as possible on a student budget, they used the cheap flights offered by no-frills airlines. Eventually, they both started their careers in England and, being keen travellers, they continued using budget airlines in order to escape for a long weekend several times a year. They became known amongst their friends for their knowledge of the destinations one can fly to with budget airlines and, after numerous questions in the lines of: "My friend is coming to see me from Brussels. Do you know which budget airline flies from Brussels?", Martino decided to create a little utility to answer such questions and then put it online so that their friends can use it. WhichBudget was born!
What was initially intended to be a small site for the use of a selective group of friends quickly grew into Europe's largest budget airlines directory thanks to its ease of use and its popularity. Friends told friends, who told other friends, etc. The word spread, search engines indexed the site, newspapers published articles on WhichBudget and, today, the site attracts over 10,000 unique visitors a month, not just from Europe, but from as far away as Japan, Brazil, Australia and the USA.
The Future
So, what about the future? That depends on you. We have grown because we listened to our visitors and we continue to welcome your feedback (contact@whichbudget.com) on how you would like WhichBudget to develop.
